COMMUNION THOUGHTS: 1 John 2:1-6
John encourages us not to sin, even though we know we will sin because of our sinful nature. But he does say when we sin it is because of Jesus righteous act and the sacrificing his life that atone for our sins. And we can be sure of the forgiveness of those sins if we are faithful in obeying his commandments. John says if any of us claim that we know God but don’t obey God we are just lying to ourselves and the truth is not living in us. So at the Lords table we reflect and remember Jesus’ love and sacrifice for our sins as we continue to be obedient to him. One way we show our obedience to His Commandments is to faithfully be about the Lords table every Lord’s day remembering his sacrifice for our sins. While we cannot assemble together because of the social distancing and stay at home recommendation we can worship individually and in spirit with one another this day. Obedience it’s one clear indication that we know Christ and belong to him. If we do not obey Christ, it is obvious that we do not belong to him or love him. As we obey Christ and his commandments, our love for God and our knowledge of him will grow toward completeness and maturity. We will then live as Jesus lived in union with God and with one another.
